Reality IMT successfully completed a large-scale mobile mapping project for Avangrid and NYSEG, delivering comprehensive asset data for their critical Grid Model Enhancement Project. The scope involved the capture, processing, and validation of over 500 miles of above-ground utility network in upstate New York, providing the energy provider with verified, high-accuracy data to improve grid performance and resilience.

The project required sophisticated Real-Time Kinematic (RTK) GPS and spherical camera technology mounted on a moving vehicle. This high-efficiency capture method generated over 115,000 street-level imagery assets within just two weeks, ensuring minimal disruption to local traffic and maximum safety for the field teams. The data was post-processed extensively to achieve superior positional accuracy, a non-negotiable requirement for reliable grid modeling.

“The foundation of modern grid enhancement is data integrity,” said Ala Hamdan, CEO of Reality IMT. “Our challenge was not just capturing a massive 500-mile network quickly, but validating every single asset against the existing database. By combining high-speed mobile mapping with advanced feature extraction software, we gave Avangrid/NYSEG the confidence that their critical GIS data—including SAP IDs and phase configurations—is current and accurate for future infrastructure planning.”
